I remember it. Been a while. But use to be atop the four lane from the Valley to Norton. Right near the overlook. Was popular for a long time.
Someone should purchase it and get it going again. Was a great place to go hang out and have fun.
my mother just said she used to go there all the time, then kind of said....... yeah everything good around here is going, and left to go to my grandmothers. hmmm.

Well, a friend of mine told me it's owned by Wendell Barnette and that theres a security guard up there full time. He said two of his friends tried to hike up there to check the place out and the guard told them that he had already called the police. So, I don't think anyone should try to venture up there. From what I've heard there's no interest in reopening it either.

Wow that is amazing. I would think this being mining and railroad country it would be an attraction. A full time security officer, yet no one see's the potential of the place.
Talk about nieve. Want to show off the area. This would be a good way to do it. Coal and railway.
Oh well no wonder we are so far behind. No leaders and no hindsight, to see what we have.
What I found interesting was the 5 acre lake. You could at least put a "pay pond" kind of fishing place there. It's hard to imagine that there's an almost 1000 acre tract of land up there with all of that on it.

Your learning bro. that is what is killing Wise Co. we have the land, we have the resources, we just lack those who will sell what we have.
And ya know that is what kills me. We have all we need just to many who don't know how to promote what we have.
Look at your post. Heck i been telling area leaders for ever, and im just tired now. So maybe you and others can get them to see where they are failing the county.
Rim Rock Railroad? That was the big thing around here when I was young. Spent many a day on that train. My favorite part of the train ride was the part where it came to an outhouse and the door sprang open and there was someone inside! Train stopped halfway and let you go up to the lookout...had to cross a bridge to get to it. You could see it from the old road from Appy to Norton for the longest time. They must have torn that bridge down because last few times going up that way, haven't been able to see it.

Unless he purchased it after it closed, it was owned by George Barnette of Barnette Contractors, not Wendell Barnette. It's been closed for over 30 years.
Wasn't that Wendell's father, grandfather, or something like that though. If so, it may have been bequeathed to him.
